La La La La La La La Life is Wonderful

I bought some Jason Mraz music today. Good stuff.

Aside from that, life IS pretty wonderful. I just chilled at the house mindlessly today…which I haven’t really been able to do in quite a while.

The past couple days have been pretty good. I’ve been able to hang out with my friends before they head off to school and I skip away to New Orleans for my Mission Year. That’s been a lot of fun, because honestly as the next couple years roll up who knows how often we’ll be able to get together. I know that sounds kind of lame/like a pipe dream that we would all stay close at all, but I will say that most of these people are people that I have been doing life with for the past couple years, and as I look out at what I believe Gods plan for my life to be, I see them as people that I will continue to be doing life with in for years to come. (Thanks guys)

Yesterday was my last Sunday at Austin Bapist Church, it was good. I will miss those kids, they gave Alex and me a great summer. They made us each a scrapbook of the summer which I thought was really cool (if you guys are reading this, I am taking that with me to N.O.!). I really enjoyed my time there this summer, I learned a lot about being in ministry (bein in church work specifically), and about myself. Thanks Dr. Procter, Kay, and Alex.

For those of you who follow me religiously (thanks Cat!) I took the plunge on the whole moeskein thing. Might be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I’m loving every minuite of it. I am probably writing in it way to much…but I don’t care…it’s way to much fun to stop. I’ve even got sketches (one sketch, but I envision more…) and I am a terrible sketcher..that’s probably not eve what they call themselves…sorry guys…

I think that was all I wanted to share with you guys,

Dave

Moleskin Or Moleskine?

If you’re anything like me (let’s pray that you’re not) when you hear the term ‘moleskin’ you think about that stuff your mom put on your blisters when you were a kid. Anyone? That stuff was wicked cool, and was guaranteed to make me forget about my blister…because I was busy playing with the moleskin…Thanks mom. (If your mom didn’t do this for you you should ask her why she didn’t love you).

From this point forward though, I think that my thinking on this word will be forever changed. Have you guys heard of the Moleskine Journals? They seem pretty legit, and I have talked to several people lately who have enjoyed using them. I am not 100% sure that I want one…but I am about 99% sure. So…yeah. I’m not entirely sure what I will use it for, but I’m pretty sure the possibilities endless. Since ‘blog’ is short for Web Log, and blogs are used for journaling/updating/providing information, I feel like this is a way to get in touch with the grass roots of blogging. What are your thoughts?

Thanks,

Dave

P.S. – I had to edit this post, and I had gone back to their site, and realised I have been pronouncing it wrong. Very stupidly wrong. So in my head the two products were pronounced the same, so I made that connection. I stand by my decision to keep that connection in my head. Thanks. (I also retitled it)

Hello again, Hello

This weekI saw Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2. Great movie, I suggest that if you like chick flicks at all that you see this movie. I know a lot of people like to make fun of me because I like chick flicks…but it’s good. Seriously. I’ve also read the books. All of them, and they’re good too. I am kind of upset that they put three books into one movie, but I understand. You just miss a lot. Oh well though…maybe I’ll read the books again to feel better about it…

Also, I have to be honest with you guys…I don’t really care about the Olympics. I know that sounds harsh, but it’s the truth. That doesn’t mean that I 100% just don’t care about them at all….but I don’t get spending 4 hours every night for…however long…watching sports that I only care about every 4 years. On the flip side….I’ve totally been sucked in. When I watched those swimmers smash that record last night…I wanted to run out there and give them all high fives. But the I realized that would 1-hurt to run into the tv like that…and 2-it would take longer than a scene change in STP2 to get across the world…So I settled for raising my fists in a power puch in the air. It rocked. Also, the gymnastics is really cool too.

If you could medal in anything in the summer or winter Olympics, what would it be? For me? The Olympics. All of it.

Thanks for your time,

Side hugs and leg drops

Friday night I participated in a lock-out. Side hug. Tonight I watched some sweet UFC fights with some great friends. Leg drops my friends, leg drops. (I know that the whole side hugs and leg drops market has been cornered by my man Jon Acuffs over at Stuff Christians Like, but I really like it and have been using it a lot over the past couple days, and wanted to title my blog that…)

Lock out was good. Laser tag was boss as usual. Who doesn’t like to run around fake killing middle schoolers?! It was great! We then proceeded to a roller rink. Rest assured if you ever see me roller blading again, my life has been threatened. My body still hurts from it. After that, we went swimming at the Berry Creek pool. I didn’t swim…but we did have the cops called on us…that was interesting. Over all it was a great event.

UFC fights were all pretty great. My boy Brock Lesnar came out on top like I knew he would. Georges St. Pierre did as well. I am not a die hard GSP fan, but I did have him picked for the fight. In the end I came out as the three time champ, successfully defended my belt from last month, and have the most points over all. Thank you gods of UFC.

Seriously though, great weekend over all. In between those tow events I went to the second birthday party of Raley Lynn Levy. Great kid. Great weekend overall. So far. Looking forward to tomorrow morning. It will be my second to last sunday at Austin Baptist Church. I loe those kids and those people, and thank them all so much for what they have taught me this summer.

Side hugs and leg drops (thanks Jon),

Shoutouts

This is for my boys who have given me a shout out in the past couple days…that boils down to Jmob and Jaron Covey. Thank you true friends. You know who hasn’t shouted me out? Nic Burleson (I’m vain. I checked.) Despite his oversight of my new found love of blogging (p.s. I’m totally just giving him a hard time. He has a real job, and is getting ready to move churches and stuff. He is a busy man), I am going to shout him out too.

Jmob is a cool guy. He’s funny, and wicked creative. God has called him to do tech/video/sound stuff for church (i’m pretty sure thats right dude…if not please feel free to publicly chastise me) and that’s awesome. He brings a fresh perspective to a lot of stuff I thought I knew about, and brings to mind some things I’d never thought about. You can find his blog at http://jonathanmobley.com/

Jaron Covey is 3% less cool than Jmob. I love you dude…I’m just saying. In all seriousness though, he’s a great guy with a heart for the Lord. He’s also dating my good friend Jenna Coe (her blog is on my blogroll). She’s lucky he doesn’t quit her. His blog is http://acloserwalkwithjc.blogspot.com/

Last but not least, my buddy Nic Burleson. Like I said before, he is about to be headed over to The Connection Church in Kyle Texas (this is their site http://www.theconnectionchurch.org/). He’s been in ministry for quite some time, and he is excellent at what he does. Plus he’s really cool and funny. I wish him and Johanna (his wife whose blg you can ALSO find on my blogroll) all the best in this new season of their life. This is his blog http://nicburleson.blogspot.com. (At 11:54 am on 8/7/08 Nic posted his “Link Love”. I was not loved.)

Check out their blogs, and the ones in my blogroll, and the ones in my “Famous” Blogs.

Have a great day folks,

Stippick.

Bowling.

I really think that it should replace baseball as The Great American Pass Time. It’s fun, and unless you’re one of those ultra-competitive people, it’s impossible to get angry at bowling.

I think that there are only five people in the world who are actually good at bowling. One of them is this kid who’s in 5th grade, he got a 131 in one game…that was my score from three games combined that night. It was nuts. The other four are probably not from america. That being said…that leaves the other 6 billion of us who are terrible at it. So how could you get mad when the person next to you is just as bad as you are, but HAPPENS to be having a lucky night? It’s impossible I tell you.

So let’s all go bowling, and have a great time. Look out baseball. Look out.

P.S.: I went bowling tonight…

I REALLY like

The Secret Life of the American Teenager. Does that make me kind of a chick? Probably. Do I care? Not really. It’s terrible acting. Terrible writing. But ohhhhh so guiltily good. Seriously, I do kind of feel like a pre-teeny bopper girl watching this show, but it’s kind of like a train wreck. I can’t not look.

Later Hater Skater Waiter and Smelly Cheese Grater,

Shark Week

I don’t get it. At no other time in our lives do we care about sharks as much as we do during Shark Week. (I say we loosely, I am personally not really a fan) I dunno, I just don’t get it.

About twice a year the Discovery Channel, and Animal Planet air “Shark Week” and I am forced to listen to just about everybody, except for secret shark haters like myself, talk about all these fascinating things they’ve learned about sharks over the last few days as though I also want to be a shark (because I think those people secretly want to be sharks).

Quite frankly though, I’m sick of it. I think that the people who are avid shark lovers twice a year should have to have badges that they put on during shark week to let others know it is appropriate to talk to them about sharks. If you attempt to talk to someone about sharks who does NOT have on the shark lover badge? Get ready for serious public humiliation or physical pain. Not really sure exactly HOW either of those would take place, but they will. Believe you me.

Thanks for your time,

Stippick

I am. Seriously. On September 5th at 8:15 a.m. I will be headed off to New Orleans for a year. Talk about kind of scary.

I am 100% stoked, and ready and excited about what I know God is going to be doing in my life this year. I am also 100% scared out of my mind about being away from home and everything I know for an entire year. It is an experience that I know is going to challenge me, and help shape me into the man that I know God intends for me to be…but I sure wish I wasn’t this anxious about it.

It has only been in the past few says that the nervousness has kicked in. My summer internship is coming to a close, and it has been great. I have learned some great lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. I realised though, that as this comes to a close, my Mission Year is going to commence. 4 and a half weeks. 33 days until I leave (I put a d-day counter on my phone). It is just so much more real to me now that my friends are preparing to go back to school, and I begin to think about what I’ll be ding while they’re doing that.

Don’t get me wrong. I am way looking forward to this. I just have some jitters. Please pray for me about that. Pray for my team that I will be living with, and all the other ’08-’09 participants that we will allow ourselves to step out of the way and Christ to shine through us. Pray for the MY staff as the wind down from one group and start to gear up for another group to come in. Pray for the people in the cities we will be in, that God would begin/continue to work in their hearts.
