Guess who’s back, back again?

Did I just use a fairly outdated reference to announce my retunr to the blogosphere? Yes, yes I did. Because the way I see it is that if you’re going to come back into something like this, return to something that your adoring fans love? Do it in style. And few things say style to me more than Slim Shady. Or whatever his name is this year.

Anyway. I am back. I’m back to writing. I’m back to blogging. Back to sharing my opinions on the world wide internets for any and all who care to read them. I’m really back because I love this. I love having an outlet to share what God is teaching me with the hopes that it could help someone else at some point.

So stay tuned folks. It’s about to get verbose up in here. I look very forward to sharing with all three of you who care to read these ramblings.

Grace & Peace,
Stippick

A Big Thanks

Reader,

This thanks is to you. Thank for reading. Even for checking when I’m not posting regularly. I love when I’m in the habit and posting everyday, but it only takes a day or two off to get me out of it. I’m working on getting back into it, and I hope you’ll stick with me as I make every effort to do that. If you can take the time out of your day to click through my thoughts, I can take the time to sit and peck them out.

So. That being said. I am thankful that you find my thoughts worthy enough to spend your time. Hope you’re having a great day.

Grace & Peace,

Stippick

A good friend of mine recently moved Stephenville, Tx to plant Timber Ridge Church. I’m super pumped for Nic Burleson, his wife Johanna, and their son Hayden as they take on this new adventure. They’ll be joined by my good friends the Speegles, and Jenna, and probably a few more who I’m missing.

I just wanted to share this with you today and ask you to do a couple of things:

  1. PRAY for them as they begin this endeavor. They will need this church, themselves, and the community they’re trying to reach bathed in prayer!
  2. Visit the website. Just go see what they’re about. Nic has a short message on the front page. Watch it. Read a little bit. Poke around the site. They’re going to be doing some cool stuff.
  3. Sign up to be no they’re prayer list. This will help you to know specifically what to pray for this team about.
  4. Consider giving. I know now isn’t the best time to be “giving money away”, and a lot of you already have giving commitments. But what greater way to give glory to God than to give more than He asks of us knowing that He’ll take care of each of our needs? This is one of two places that I’d ask you to consider starting new giving too. Please pray and consider.

Nic has been a big influence in my life, and I’m excited to watch him lead his family and friends in this new adventure as He passionately seeks the will of God to bring more of the Kingdom to Stephenville, Tx.

Grace and Peace,

David Stippick

A few weeks ago, I came across this article on the Washington Post website in the “On Faith” section, and was fairly astounded at the claims it made. I shared it through facebook, but thought I’d give it some time here as well. I was pretty offended by some of the statements, and my boss, who has a fairly liberal theology for being in central Texas, said it was the most “intellectually offensive thing he’d ever read.” The article is:

“Debunking ‘Biblical marriage’: why the Bible can’t dictate today’s sexual morals”

The second article is:

“What does the Bible say about sexuality?”

Here is part three:

“What does the Bible say about sexual desire?”

Here’s my biggest issue with it. The author, Jennifer Wright Knust, is a professor of Religion at Boston College, and an ordained American Baptist Association Pastor. She’s also got a book out that covers the same topics: Unprotected Texts: The Bible’s Surprising Contradictions About Sex and Desire. Apparently all it takes these days to be ordained, get a masters in, and teach about the Bible is to have glanced at a couple of verses. It scares me for the future of the church at large, and offends me as someone who is pursuing full time ministry.

I’m honestly very surprised that whoever read this article before it was put on the world wide web didn’t laugh at it and throw it in the trash. While the “On Faith” section of the W.P. doesn’t only cover Christianity, it has a journalistic duty to ensure that what is said isn’t…moronic. In my personal opinion? It reflects poorly on their integrity. Not because the article says something I disagree with, but because the article says numerous things that disagree with the text upon which it is based.

Read the articles for yourself and see what you think. For Christ’s sake though, read the Bible for yourself. Don’t pull text. Read it. In context. Study it. Tear it apart. Form your positions, not opinions, from there.

How’s it going? How have you guys been? I’ve been pretty good. You know. Just hanging out. I feel like it’s been forever since I’ve seen you. Where have you been? Have you been avoiding me? Why? What’d I do?

That’s a joke. It’s me who’s been gone. I totally forgot to register my domain name and mapping and what not. But. Never you fear. I’ll be back starting this coming Monday. Back with a vengeance. Like Bruce Willis in Die Hard With a Vengeance. Only with less killing. So. Throw a party. Invite your friends, and get ready for the ride.

I like music. I like it when I can get new music. Unfortunately, I am but a poor college student. So I don’t buy a whole lot of music. A few weeks ago though…my world was changed. By Amazon.com and their MP3 download site. It’s fantastic.

In addition to their daily deal that is $3.99, they have a ton of free and low cost albums. I got the new Taylor Swift album for 3.99, and have discovered a few new favorites from the free downloads. You download the amazon mp3 downloader, and the music downloads directly into your iTunes or whatever it is that you use to listen to music, and it doesn’t have the same digital rights restriction as if you were buying directly from iTunes.

Maybe you’ve known about this for a while. If so, you should have told me. I can’t believe you would have kept this to yourself! If not though…now you know. Enjoy.

This week, I’ll be sharing tributes to my siblings. Not that the majority of you really care. But I do.

This weeks edition of Link Love finds me connecting you with two friends. One old (not age…but…time known) and one new.

I’ve known Kelsey Cook Longio for the same amount of time I’ve known Jesus. A little over 6 years. She’s really neat. And funny. And doesn’t cry nearly as much as she used to ;) . She writes a pretty witty blog that you should give a good look to. If for no other reason than to check out some of the recipes she shares. They look really good. But I wouldn’t know. Because I live in a dorm room. So I don’t try to make them. So, take some time and see how she puts paper endless rain into a paper cup.

My good friend Haley Jones also would like to be a writer someday. She’s also the reason I make really good grades on my english papers. If I really wanted to, I could take the time and edit my papers…but when you’re friends with an English major..why? Anyway, she recently started blogging and since I don’t know the real reason why, I’m going to call myself her inspiration. She’d pretty good y’all, so be prepared. Make sure you take a look at how she is figuring out how to live a life of love.

Link Love: The Unwritten

Relevant Magazine did such a good job a reviewing this graphic novel The Unwritten that I actually went out and got the first two volumes. I never thought I’d be a graphic novel guy, but I’ve actually really enjoyed trying them out. The format is really engaging, and just all around neat.

This is what grabbed me the most,

In the so-far-printed 13 issues, Carey has managed to incorporate fantasy, horror, nationalistic literature, children’s literature, medieval epic, Dickens, Kipling, Twain, Milne, Wilde and Shelley (Mary, not Percy), which is fitting since The Unwritten is a story about stories.

I’ll let you check out the rest of the article here. Maybe you’ll get as hooked as I did…
